Dallas Stars draft RW Scott Glennie with the 8th overall pick

The Dallas Stars selected Sott Glennie with the 8th overall pick. From our draft profile:

A lack of quality right handed shooters at the forward position in the Stars system obviously makes Scott a very attractive pick and it's his ability to shoot the puck so well that has grabbed the attention of scouts.  What really sets Scott apart from all other top ranked draft picks is his blazing speed which some have said compares favorably already to that of established NHLers. Speed with the ability to play the puck is a quality that new Stars coach Marc Crawford loves to have on his bench so you could almost consider Scott the perfect prospect for a Crawford coached team.

What others are saying about Scott:

TSN.ca - Shane Malloy

If Glennie had played all 72 games in the WHL he would have been on pace to produce 91 points - which is very impressive in a tough league. Although he only posted 28 goals this year, Glennie was a clutch goal scorer with nine game winning goals. When the game is on the line and you need a goal, Glennie is the type of player that always comes through for you. His hockey sense and skill to play with elite forwards is at a high level and he should have no trouble adapting to the NHL. He has the ability to be a solid top line forward and a consistent two-way player in the postseason.

NHL.com - Director of NHL Central Scouting E.J. McGuire

Scott Glennie was mislabeled earlier in the year as perhaps being only a finisher for often linemate Brayden Schenn. Yet Scott took matters into his own hands with an equal number of goals and assists and contributed greatly this season with a power forward type attitude. Glennie might remind the fan of NHL players with power forward abilities coming off the wall like Jonathan Cheechoo and Jonathan Toews -- that kind of offensive ability.

I'm headed down to get pictures and quotes. More to come later.

Terrible

Terrible, just terrible. The Stars, Mavs and Boys need to look at the Rangers and learn how to not suck at drafting.

Why?

Because they went against the grain?

The more I look at this pick, the more I like it.

If there’s one deficiency in the Stars’ farm system, it’s a lack of right handed shots that can score.

And Glennie certainly proved he could do that in juniors.

Really would've like MPS or Cowen

but I guess this isn’t bad.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

I wouldn't mind

If that meant getting Schroeder.

I’m a little surprised at how far he’s fallen.

I of course love this pick and will expand on that more on Sunday once we get all the draft picks out of the way, but the drafting of Glennie I think addresses the Stars biggest need

Very solid pick and I think well done by the Stars.
