[UPDATE] Russia wins 3-2. The USA played as best they could, giving all they possible had. Alex Radulov broke a 2-2 tie with 1:47 remaining in the third period to give the Russians the lead. Team USA exceeded all expectations in the tournament and have set the stage for what should be a great showing at the upcoming Olympics.

[All remaining games are now broadcast for free on UniversalSports.com; as well as the Universal digital television station]

Crap.

Russia scores off a faceoff. A quick one timer by Ilya Kovalchuk right off the faceoff sneaks by Esche.

And.......................

Russia scores again. Kovalchuk once more, this time off the rush. The USA got caught deep in their zone and couldn’t make it back in time for the backcheck.

Wow.

Matt Niskanen is playing a pretty physical game. Just got into pretty heavily with a few Russians at the end of the period.

I’m liking that.

Well, he said he was going to work on his physique and such during the off-season.

Good to know he wasn’t just blowing smoke.

To be perfectly honest..

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nisky had an “Eriksson”-type season next year.

by viralphrame on May 8, 2009 11:05 AM CDT up reply actions

Definitely

He’s spent the past two seasons in the NHL, during which players are normally learning things in the AHL.

This is the best the USA has done in the Worlds since 2004.

Even if they can’t pull this one out, it’s still great to see the US hang in there with the hockey powers of Sweden, Canada and Russia.
