Avery a Ranger. Still on the cap?

Avery has been claimed by the Rangers, can anyone explain to me how this is going to work for this year and the reminaing years on his contract as far as if his salary will count against the Stars cap and by how much?

Sure....

When a player is claimed on Re-entry waivers, then the two teams involved split his remaining contracts 50/50.

Avery was given a 4 year/$16 Million contract. There is basically a 1/4 of the season left this year, so the Stars have already paid him $3M. The remaining $1M is split between Dallas and New York, so by having the Rangers pick him up the Stars save $500, 000 against the cap for the rest of the year.

Consequently, Avery will count $2M a year against the cap for the next four years.

2 million well worth it

i was a big supporter of us picking him up because i liked the idea of him and Ott getting people off their games and scoring. Problem is Ott is liked by his teammates and is there for his mates, Avery is not, well atleast outside of NY he is not :)

Yeah...

I was thinking the same thing when we picked him up. I liked it, but it obviously didn’t work out and created a divide in the dressing room, so it was worth dropping him.

The biggest problem according to Razor

Is that Avery acted like a Diva and wouldn’t partake in any team activities.

After the Rangers game early in the year when he quipped to the media ‘I don’t have time to talk to you guys. I have to take my teammates out to dinner while they still like me.’ Avery instead hung out with his own crew.

At best, it was just one of those things where he was just going to do his own thing. It became bothersome because he treated the Stars PR staff like crap, violated team rules, and then for the topper, uttered the infamous ‘sloppy seconds’ line.
