Brad Richards out 6-8 weeks, will not require surgery

Bad news and good news.

Richards does in fact have a broken wrist and will be out the requisite 6-8 weeks. The good news is that he will not require surgery, which would have made rehab even longer.

From the Dallas Stars press release:

FRISCO, Tex. - The Dallas Stars announced today that center Brad Richards will be placed on Injured Reserve with a distal radius fracture in his right wrist, suffered in the club's 3-2 shootout win last night at Columbus. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

Richards was evaluated by Dallas' medical staff this morning and it was determined that he will not need surgery on the wrist. He will be re-evaluated in a month.

Richards, 28, has skated in 55 games this season, posting 16 goals and 32 assists for 48 points. Among team leaders, he ranks first in shots (179), second in assists and points, tied for second in power play goals (5) and third in goals.

That.

Really. Sucks.

I guess we’ll get a chance to see the team’s true character now. Do they play harder because they don’t have Richards in the lineup, and want to get to the playoffs so all the hard work he contributed to doesn’t go to waste? Or, do they fold because this is the second massive loss the team’s endured this season?

Grrr...

…and all of a sudden, making the playoffs seems like a terrific feat.

Indeed a major hit.

Agree with jwiscarson.

When the Cats lost Booth, Horton, McCabe, Olesz, and Stillman, (quite the offensive load) all at once, the rest of the club – unbelievably – picked up the slack and carried the team for two weeks, leading to the surge we’ve had in the two months since. Unreal what can happen when everyone’s on the same page. I was astounded.
