Dorsett on Neal's hit: "I know what kind of person he is; I know his intention. There was no intention to slow down. I'll remember this."

Dorsett has just managed to accomplish what very few other fellow humans have ever accomplished before: make me, off all people, wish he was hurt worse. What a sorry excuse. He’ll be out of the league soon enough while James Neal solidifies himself as one of the new elite. Oh well…

I missed when Dorsett became a mind reader. The only person who knows what the intent of that hit was, is James Neal. And since this is the first time Neal has ever done anything like this, how does he know what kind of player he his? And if Dorsett is going to get Neal back the next time they play, the league should remember this quote since he has basically said he will do something.

Dorsett doesn’t know Neal nor his character. Dorsett is still steaming, fine (though Hitch can’t be happy with that twitter). The kid is not a villain, doesn’t play that way.

Neal plays a hard and a physical role, but clean. As a youngster Neal will learn from this experience and the need for control. A penalty and injury occurred in a contentious area of the ice that night, unfortunately, and a punishment handed down. Neal is exactly what I want in a young player for the Stars – drive, offensive skill, defensive responsibility, energy, and all about work ethic and team. Hope the league watches for “bounty bowl” next, after the examples made of the Stars in recent times.

oh for the love of all that's hockey...

if James was as awful as Dorsett wants to make him seem, the hit would have, oh I don’t know, actually been ON Dorsett instead of mostly between the Bugs players (cuz that’s where the puck was IIRC)…
The suspension hit was actually more incidental than intentional…at least that’s how it looks from the TSN replay I’ve watched a few times this afternoon…

**Proof SOME rules are meant to be broken**

It did look like he was going more for the puck than the body…

doesn’t matter though, eh

Unethical

Dorsett has a concussion severe enough to prevent him from playing for two weeks. WTF kind of editor lets a reporter run direct, threatening quotes from a man with a traumatic brain injury? Erratic, intense emotions are a near-universal side effect of this injury.

And even if Dorsett still has it out for Neal when his brain recongeals, his career is at risk when he hits Neal because his intent is on record. Or maybe he means he plans to pay more attention to the opposing team when he’s feet from the puck?

I think Aaron Portzline disrespected his responsibility to use ethical judgement in who he quotes and when more egregiously than Neal did Dorsett.

Err...

And by “run” I meant “incite fury via Twitter,” though with the way commercial papers need buzz, I expect that will make the print edition if it hasn’t already.

Normally I don't like to see any player hurt unless it's marchment

however in this case, I think Neal should’ve taken some lessons from Hatcher and hit Dorsett harder and break his jaw. It’s hard to say stupid stuff when your jaw is wired shut. This just furthers my disdain and overall contempt for the blue skirts.

Wow...

might be one of of the most classless posts I’ve ever read.

James Neal will get what’s coming to him, he needs to man up and take people on face to face, not run them from behind.

I eagerly await this ass clown taking on anyone from the Blue Jackets next time they play. If he’s man enough to do it. I’m guessing no. He’s a punk.

by JT in Cbus on Nov 21, 2009 7:31 AM CST up reply actions

Now I don't exactly agree with Happy Girl...

But I find it very amusing that you say Neal is a punk and classless, then turn around and say “He’ll get what’s coming to him”

Just because Dorsett runs Neal from behind in the first and tries to start a fight with him doesn’t mean he has to fight. He did his job; draw a penalty. What use is Neal as our top scorer if he’s in the box 5 minutes for fighting?

Do I agree the hit deserved punishment? Yes. Do I agree the NHL is consistent in their punishments? Nope. But that’s the way it goes.

Look, Neal has never shown a penchant for being a dirty player, although he gets overzealous at times and makes a bad hit. I’m not proud of the boarding calls he’s received this season, and he had a few last year. That certainly needs to stop.

But is he malicious? I don’t think so.

And Dorsett trying to carry this over like this is just going to lead to more nastiness.

You clearly don't understand hockey

Neal is the Stars’ leading scorer. It would be stupid of him to take himself off the ice for 5 minutes just because somebody challenges him to a fight.

Should Rick Nash drop the gloves with everyone who skates by him and says, “Wanna go?”

Well done. Maybe if the Jackets would drop the gloves when challenged people wouldn’t go running them. How many Caps challenged Chimera after AO was hurt? And Chimera wouldn’t except ever? And this is the same CBJ team the employs Raffi Torres? Yeah, you guys are poor little victims.

take note NHL

If he takes a run at neal and does damage its premeditated checking!! Dorsett he wasnt going for you you leaned in for the puck as neal came in, and asking him to slow down?! come on everyone lets slow the pace down so Mr’ Dorsett has time to get out ofthe way of the real men playingthis game

i love this post

he seriously did everything fundamentally wrong, before the hit, and clearly with his comment after the hit.

We must also remember

that Derek Dorsett is a Sean Avery-wannabe. That’s great coming from him :P

I'm still trying to figure out...

Who Derek Dorsett actually is.

Never heard of the kid before he left part of his forehead on the ACC glass.

Dorsett actually tried to get into Neal’s face earlier in the game… You’d think he’d learn.

LOL

Do I really wish Neal had broken Dorsett’s jaw – no. I would never wish it on anyone. I do though have a dark sense of humor which doesn’t always translate well online. But I do question how seriously injured he is if he has time to speak with reporters. I think it was an illegal hit. I don’t think it was intentional or dirty. And I do believe that Dorsett is over reacting and further aggravating the situation. Robi took a nasty hit and I don’t hear him saying he’s going all comando against the Blue Jackets next time.

I also don’t understand fans of other teams coming to the Stars board and being upset that people here are supporting the Stars player Neal. I’ve never understand that about the ol’ Infuriatingnet.

Good points and I hope I don’t fall into the foreign fans group you’re talking about. The only point I take issue with is the suggestion that Dorsett was faking it. Head injurues are quirky and I don’t think Dorsett’s reaction was embellished or inconsistent with a real head injury.
