Modano to be X-rayed Monday, Lehtinen to make road trip but both doubtful for Tuesday.
Mike Modano was seen leaving the game late in the third period last night favoring his midsection and today we now have a better understanding why. As per Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com and Mark Stepneski of Andrew's, Modano missed practice this morning and will be undergoing some X-rays Monday to see if there are any further issues and if the injury is more serious than first thought.
Modano did manage to return for the shootout but looked quite stiff taking his shot and the shot itself lacked the trademark speed he usually displays. Any kind of injury to the ribs certainly would be a good reason for that to happen.
Modano's status for the upcoming road trip is of course in question.
In other team injury news, Jere Lehtinen will be making the road trip but still might be held out of the Tuesday game against the Oilers. Brad Richards is still fighting off a groin issue and sat out practice this morning; he should be fine for the Oiler game however.

Crap
Could see Peterson center Ott and Lehtinen then.
Brunnstrom was moved around a bit last night too so watch for him if Lehtinen can’t go.
You’ve got Sutherby as well. They’re ok for centers but still. Mo looked good last night until the injury

Watching the film...
That was the best I’ve seen Modano play in a very long time. He looked fluid, he was creating chances and looked like his old self from a few years ago.
That stick injury was brutal. Just bad luck.
It looked like the stick got up under his pads and into that soft spot right under your ribs. That HURTS.

I remember seeing the play
that it happened on. He was going into the corner was accidentally caught with a spear in his ribs. I don’t know that you could break ribs that way, but I am far from a Dr. My guess is it’s just sore from taking the stick there. No doubt, like Brandon said, bad luck.

shoot out
should have used Benn, or Brunnstrom on the shoot out. Fresh young kids and Ellis knows nothing about them and how they will approach the shot
Hindsight
I know Mike’s a gamer and wouldn’t turn down the chance, but he shouldn’t have taken that shootout. Hindsight being what it is, the point is moot.
As for Lehts, I’ve got to state the obvious: The man’s a great player, but he can’t help the team if he isn’t on the ice.
Concur
I real think that Jere and Mike should bow out after this season. They have had a great career, but both are getting old and are having alot of the injury bug. Its kinda like Zubie…eventually you got to let them go…:( It will free up cap money and we can start getting some younger talented kids. Like you stated Mike…they cant help if they are always out hurt.
Mike
Misleading
I saw this on my SBN sidebar:

And I totally thought that Modano had done us all a favor and injured Mike Ribeiro (though I probably would suspect that Ribs was faking it).
