The Dallas Stars have announced that Steve Ott has been placed on injured reserve with his oblique strain, and have recalled Aaron Gagnon from the Texas Stars. Ott will be placed on IR retroactive to October 11th, and is eligible to return to action against Los Angeles on October 19th but could be longer based on his injury. With Modano still hurting and Ott out, the Stars were in need of some forward depth for this weekend. Ott needed to go on IR to make room for a call up.
Of all the Texas Stars poised to be the first to be called up the NHL, I think Gagnon was about third on my list behind Colton Sceviour and perhaps Sergei Korostin and Perttu Lindgren. Still, I'm excited to see what he can do at this level.
Gagnon is a good skater who is strong on the puck, and is solid on both ends of the ice. He'll get physical in the corners and is best described as a 'grinder'. He's not going to light it up offensively, but he can win some faceoffs if needed and provide some good depth and grit on the fourth line.
[UPDATE] Mike Heika says that Jere Lehtinen is out tonight and likely tomorrow as well with pain in his "intercostal muscle." Details here. -BG
